Brad Smith
Prior to coming on board with Solar RePower, Brad Smith was a VP of Operations for nine years at Growing Energy Labs, Inc. (Geli), where he managed software development and project deployment activities for Geli’s active and ever-expanding energy storage project pipeline, both before and after Geli’s acquisition by Hanwha Qcells America at the beginning of 2021. He managed a team of systems/electrical engineers and software developers tasked with creating and deploying the Geli energy management system, designed to control energy storage systems to achieve maximum economic benefit for Geli’s customers. He and his team coordinated internally with Qcells business units and product managers, and externally with project developers, engineering, procurement, and construction firms, as well as system component vendors, to assure the success of every energy storage project.
Prior to joining Geli, Brad spent eight years with Foresight Renewable Solutions as a renewable energy (wind and solar) lead project developer. His responsibilities, and those of the team he managed, included site identification and land contract negotiations, managing the site permitting process, interconnection process management, and project management activities such as resource, schedule, and budget management. He was instrumental in facilitating the sale of a 100 MW wind portfolio to Edison Mission Energy and over 80 MW of utility-scale solar projects to various buyers.
Before his time at Foresight, Brad spent seven years at Wells Fargo in their network security group, where he managed a team of network security engineers and project managers tasked with designing and implementing secure network and firewall solutions for business units within Wells Fargo that needed to interact with vendor and partner networks external to the bank.
Mr. Smith graduated cum laude from Kalamazoo College in Michigan with a B.A. in Economics and minors in Mathematics and Environmental & Resource Economics.
